Frosted Designs Fabulous Friday Challenge

Fabulous Friday Challenge at Frosted Designs: No Patterned paper... My specialty. (See previous post!) I love creating colourful pages using just plain bazzills. 

I also love creating pages that have layers of memories. This layout will remind me of not only of Deans attraction to the camera but also of his favourite PJs, a birthday present that made him so snuggly and cuddly when he put them on and all the special memories I have of him in these PJ's. 

I love using bazzills to copy clothing of the time. One of my favourite examples was Drew's special overalls:

All so simple, yet they document important memories and anecdotes of the boys lives. 

For the challenge entry, I used ROBOTZ font to copy the words on the clothes. Adding in Dean in green.

The alien is from Boys will be Boys. 

I used Mickey Mouse font for the title. I'm glad the whole page turned out busy looking. It matches his PJs perfectly.

It was one of those scrap nights last night where I told the girls my plan for this page and they sighed, exhausted by just thinking about the amount of problem solving I had to do to make it happen. But I did it!

The Scrappiest Sketch 101

I may have missed the boat! I think the linky for this sketch is already closed, but oh well, I: A) still got scrapping done, B) am going to link it anyway just in case and, C) had fun... Win Win Win. 

The Scrappiest Sketch 101 I used for my big boy's first ever day of school. Such a milestone. Being a teacher I know how long the school career/journey is, and I'm so pleased to see such an excited face on my boy in this photo. I hope it stays.

  This free paper came from my first ever scrap magazine which I bought about 5 years ago. I have kept it all this time wanting to use it on Dean's first day of school. (Before Dean was even born!) Even though I got it out of the box and thought, ewww... there is so much better paper out there, I used it anyway like I had planned.

The smoochy kiss he gave his brother to say goodbye was adorable and I am glad I'm a scrapbook fanatic always with a camera ready to capture moments like these.

Little Yellow Bicycle Sketch Challenge.

Liz Qualman has put a great sketch up for a challenge at Little Yellow Bicycle. I already completed it using other paper, but I hunted down some Little Yellow Bicycle paper and gave the actual challenge a go. The sketch is actually a real fun one to turn into a layout!

 I loved using fake stitching, it really made the letters look cuddly!

As always, I wanted to distress ink, but I found with this range of paper called Zach's Life collection, all the colours defined themselves without too much help from my beloved inks. 

Here is the same sketch I completed with Grace Taylor paper:

But I am glad I chose Little Yellow Bicycle collection of Zach's Life for Drew's page. I love the distress look and the bold colours within it. As a bonus... I have enough left from the four double sheets I bought to make about four more fun layouts!

Liz's sketch was a surprise to me that I could use boyish paper and make it look fantastic in his album! (To be honest, I often overlook sketches with banners, as I think they may be too girly!) I'll now be re-thinking all those girly sketches I've never attempted.

Now that I know what your paper looks like, I'll be back!

My Little ShoeBox Challenge.

 I'm addicted to 12 x 12 and My Little Shoe Box has the cutest paper ranges. So I am entering their challenge! This paper collection is called Simple Life.

This is the January sketch by Aphra Bolyer which can be found on the My Little Shoebox Blog.

 I used my pen knife to trim the fence so that it looked like a real fence. I thought that you would be able to see the sheep through it. As it turns out, only one leg of one sheep was visible! But the top of the fence looked authentic, so it was worth it!

I cut out the centre of the tree and added a photo behind. I like to try and fit as many photos onto one layout as I can.

My Little Shoebox collections come packed with extra elements you can add to your layout.

Frosted Designs Paint Challenge with Kaisercraft!

Hi again! Last post for today I promise!

This cool layout is entering two challenges.  Frosted Designs are having a PAINT challenge and I thought to myself, "My scrap room is already messy... why not!"

And Kaisercraft Sketch #2. Kaiser had the paper, the paint and the sketch I needed at their Saturday Sketches blog.

So there I was. Faced with paints and kitchen utensils I was OUT of my comfort zone!  (In my early childhood classroom for sure, but in my scrap room - eek!)

 I used the Kaisercraft Superhero, Dare Devil and Rough and Tough papers I had in my stash.

Luckily they are all double sided.

I cut strips from here, squares from there and a lot of little bits in the air, everywhere, it was a Kaiser kind of day.

hahaha... sorry, early childhood teacher at play.

Fork printed some of the background elements.

Whisk painted the small photo mats and strip elements.

 Meat Mashered the pocket and the element strips. LOVED the texture this created on the paper too when dry. 

Then it got real messy.

  Took my roller and some paint.

Evenly spread paint over roller.

Rolled paint evenly onto the kitchen non-slip mat.

(or jar lid opener)

Pressed it evenly onto the paper.

Voila! A creative photo mat for the main photo.

This was the actual recipe inside the pocket.

The font used on the titles were Distress and Smash. 

I cut 'Cooking Up Trouble' out with Sure Cuts a Lot2 in Smash font and used the outside paper as a stencil to sponge the paint through. 

Both the Dare Devil and Rough and Tough papers are filled with elements and letters to use for small titles and elements.

Then of course, without fail, I inked. Distress Inks Walnut Stain, Peeled Paint and Scattered Straw. Every page has to have a bit of Tim Holtz!

Flaunt it Friday! #7 Mini Monsters Skull

Hi Everyone! I'm back for my third Flaunt it Friday challenge! It's my goal to enter these all year. The challenges are fun and this week's is no exception: The skull from Mini Monsters.

I was so happy when I saw this. Years ago (pre-cricut) I made a lame scrapbook page using these photos and wanted to chuck it out and start again... so I did! 

 

My layout is about all the cool clothes my son used to wear. Rather than keep a tonne of cute clothes for memories, I scrapped them. 

I even used my scanner to scan in and print out pics of his actual Kiss shirt and Beanie.  

I loved using my Making Memories coloured staples to enhance the reds on the page.

The font is Tear Drop... which I always thought would be too girly, but works excellently in this layout.

The bold font is Jubilee (runt function)

My little peek-a-boo skull and the large one were cut from Indie Art

  

The splat skull is from Indie Art too. 

My boys always wore funny t-shirts so I wrote out afew to remind us. 

  

A bit of distressing, tearing and then inking with Barn Door Distress inks, a few funky brads... and I'm done. Another awesome page for Drew's album.
